Shopify in Oman: OmanNet Payments, OMR Pricing and Setup

Yes, Shopify works in Oman, but Shopify Payments doesn't. Connect a gateway with an OmanNet connection, such as AmwalPay, Paymob, Amazon Payment Services or Tap, to take local debit, cards and Apple Pay. Keep cash on delivery, price in OMR with three decimals and 5% VAT, and ship from Dubai in a day or two.

Key takeaways
  • Shopify works in Oman, and about 756 live stores run there, 422 of them in Muscat. Shopify Payments isn't available, so every store uses an outside gateway.
  • Pick a gateway with OmanNet on its Shopify app, such as AmwalPay, Paymob, Amazon Payment Services or Tap. Thawani has no Shopify app.
  • Shopify adds 2% (Basic) down to 0.2% (Plus) on gateway orders, often more than the OmanNet fee itself. Grow pays for itself once monthly online payments pass 100 times the price gap between the two plans.
  • Tabby and Tamara don't operate in Oman, so cash on delivery does the heavy lifting for new customers.
  • Set the store currency to OMR with three decimals and 5% VAT included. Parcels up to OMR 100 enter duty-free, but VAT applies to every one.

Yes, Shopify works in Oman. About 756 live stores already run there, more than half of them in Muscat.

And the market is moving. Oman's count of licensed online sellers roughly doubled in a year, and most Omani brands still sell through Instagram and WhatsApp. A proper store stands out fast.

The one setup step that matters most? Shopify Payments isn't available in Oman. You connect an outside gateway, and it must take OmanNet, the debit network almost every Omani card runs on.

Here's what that costs, how to price in rials and how to get parcels from Dubai to Muscat.

Does Shopify work in Oman?

Yes. Choose Oman as your store address, set the currency to OMR and sell anywhere in the country.

Three things work differently from a UAE store:

  • No Shopify Payments. In the Gulf it covers the UAE only, so Omani stores use a third-party gateway.
  • Local debit needs OmanNet. Omani debit cards, including the new Maal card, pay through a gateway with an OmanNet connection.
  • Three-decimal currency. Prices read OMR 9.900, not OMR 9.90.

How much does Shopify cost in Oman?

Shopify bills in US dollars and prices its plans by the country you register in. Basic runs $19–29 a month on annual billing, so plan with the price shown at sign-up.

Shopify also adds a transaction fee to every order paid through an outside gateway:

PlanShopify fee on gateway orders
Basic2%
Grow1%
Advanced0.6%
Plus (from $2,300 a month)0.2%

Cash on delivery is a manual method, so it carries no Shopify fee.

Worked example: when Grow pays for itself

Here's the surprise. On Basic, Shopify's 2% is bigger than the 1.5% OmanNet fee itself.

Grow halves that fee, so every OMR 100 you take online saves OMR 1. That makes the rule simple: Grow pays for itself once monthly online payments pass 100 times the price gap between the plans.

For example, take Shopify's US list prices: Basic $29 and Grow $79 on annual billing. That's a $50 gap, about OMR 19.200 a month.

Grow then breaks even at about OMR 1,920 a month in online payments. A store taking OMR 4,000 online saves about OMR 21 a month after upgrading.

Regional prices are often lower, so swap in the two prices you see at sign-up.

Getting paid: OmanNet, cards and Apple Pay

Oman's default checkout is four methods: OmanNet debit, Apple Pay, Visa and Mastercard, and cash on delivery. These gateways offer OmanNet on Shopify:

GatewayPublished Oman ratesShopify app
Amazon Payment ServicesOmanNet 1.50%; cards 2.75% + OMR 0.100Yes
PaymobOmanNet 1.5%; cards 2.5%; no monthly feeYes
AmwalPayNo setup fee; rates on quoteYes
Tap PaymentsQuoteYes
ThawaniAbout 1.5% debit, 2% creditNo

Lead with debit. It's the card most Omanis carry, and it's the cheapest for you to accept.

OmanNet uses a redirect: the shopper types a one-time code on a secure page, then returns to your store. Test the return on a phone before launch.

Every gateway's fees and documents are in our guide to payment methods in Oman.

Cash on delivery, and why there's no BNPL

COD is bigger in Oman than anywhere else in the Gulf, especially outside Muscat. Shopify charges no fee on it, so switch it on from day one.

Keep it under control:

  • Confirm every order on WhatsApp before dispatch. See how to cut fake COD orders.
  • Reward prepayment with a small discount for debit or Apple Pay.
  • Set longer delivery times for Dhofar and the interior.

Tabby and Tamara don't operate in Oman. Cashew, a UAE provider, offers monthly plans for bigger purchases such as electronics.

COD still wins first orders in Oman, so confirm each one before the courier sets off.

Pricing in OMR with 5% VAT

Set your store currency to OMR. Outside gateways charge in the store currency, so the shopper pays exactly what they saw.

The rial splits into 1,000 baisa and is pegged at US$2.6008. Check these settings:

  • Three decimals. Preview a product page to confirm OMR 12.500 shows, not OMR 12.5.
  • Charm endings. End prices on .900 or .990, since a two-digit ending looks foreign.
  • VAT inside the price. Turn on tax-inclusive pricing, because consumer prices must include 5% VAT.

Try a price of your own:

Markup is applied, then local VAT is added on top.

Consumer prices in KSA and the UAE are expected to include VAT.

Optional % added to the net price per market (e.g. to cover duty, shipping or BNPL fees).

Rounding style

Prices ending in 9 (SAR 99, 149, 199; AED 49, 99) dominate on noon, Amazon.sa and Shein (observation). For 3-decimal currencies this gives x.x90 endings.

Your font supports the new Saudi riyal sign (U+20C1), so SAR prices use it. SAMA guidance puts the riyal sign to the left of the number, with a space, in every language. The text abbreviation ر.س is usually written after the number in Arabic.

KWD is pegged to an undisclosed basket, so its rate moves slightly. ≈0.31 per USD is an approximation; review it quarterly.

Selling to Oman from a UAE store

A UAE company on Shopify Payments can add Oman in Shopify Markets and charge in OMR, with a 2% conversion fee. Shopify rounds converted prices up to its default ending, and you can't change that.

So set fixed OMR prices in a Markets catalog. Note that UAE Shopify Payments takes Omani Visa, Mastercard and Apple Pay, but not OmanNet debit. More in pricing in 3-decimal currencies.

Shipping to Oman from Dubai

Dubai is Oman's natural hub. Trucks reach Muscat through the Hatta–Al Wajajah crossing in one to two days, and Asyad Express and Aramex handle the last mile.

Since August 2026, personal parcels worth OMR 100 or less enter duty-free. Above that, 5% customs duty applies. The 5% import VAT is charged on every parcel, whatever its value.

Ship DDP (delivered duty paid) and your courier pays both at the border. You don't need an Omani VAT number for that. Hold stock in Oman, though, and you register from the first sale through a tax representative, found among VAT and tax advisors.

So price VAT into every Omani order, and keep bestsellers under OMR 100 per parcel. The border maths are in how to sell online in Oman, and lanes in our GCC cross-border shipping guide.

Arabic first, English second

Make Arabic your default language. Pick a right-to-left (RTL) theme, add Arabic in Settings > Languages and have a native speaker edit titles and navigation.

Shopify doesn't pre-translate its checkout into Arabic, so translate the checkout text and order emails yourself. Our Arabic Shopify guide compares the apps.

Notes for UAE brands

  • Oman is your easiest add-on. Same stock, a day or two by road, and the same 5% VAT rate.
  • Add an Omani entity once orders are steady, so a local gateway can switch on OmanNet. See Shopify in the UAE for your home setup.

Notes for Omani founders

  • Get the e-commerce licence first. Gateways and the Maroof Oman trust mark both expect it.
  • Move your Instagram buyers over. Share product links in your bio and WhatsApp replies, so orders land in Shopify.

Notes for foreign and Chinese brands

  • Start on a marketplace. Amazon.ae and noon both deliver to Oman and collect payment for you.
  • Your own store needs a Gulf entity for regional gateways. A UAE company is the usual first step.
