- Shopify works in Qatar, and about 2,290 live stores already run there.
- Shopify Payments and Stripe aren't available, so you connect a QPAY-linked gateway such as Dibsy, Sadad or MyFatoorah.
- Shopify adds 2% (Basic) down to 0.2% (Plus) on every order paid through an outside gateway. Cash on delivery is exempt.
- Price in QAR with two decimals. Qatar has no VAT, and parcels up to QAR 1,000 clear duty-free.
- No Qatari company yet? Sell into Qatar from a UAE Shopify store, which takes cards and Apple Pay but not NAPS debit.
Yes, Shopify works in Qatar. About 2,290 live stores already sell there, from abaya labels to fragrance houses and gadget shops.
There's one big difference from a UAE store. Shopify Payments isn't available in Qatar, and neither is Stripe.
So you'll plug in a local gateway instead. Pick one that connects to QPAY, the national gateway for Qatari debit cards, and you've covered almost every shopper in Doha.
Below, you'll see which gateways work, what they cost per order, how to price and ship, and what you need before launch.
Does Shopify work in Qatar?
Yes. You can set Qatar as your store address, price in Qatari riyals and deliver anywhere in the country. Almost everyone lives in and around Doha, so one courier reaches the whole Qatar market.
Here's what changes compared with a US or UK store:
- Payments. No Shopify Payments, so you connect an outside gateway.
- An extra Shopify fee. Shopify charges 0.2–2% on orders paid through that gateway.
- Local debit. Many Qataris pay with NAPS or Himyan debit cards, which need QPAY.
- Language. Expats shop in English, but Qatari nationals expect Arabic.
None of these is hard. Most stores sort all four in a couple of weeks.
How do you get paid on Shopify in Qatar?
You connect a payment gateway that has a Shopify app and links to QPAY. The gateway takes Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and local debit, then pays you in QAR.
Qatari gateways need a Qatari company, either a commercial registration (CR) or the new MoCI e-commerce licence.
| Published Qatar rate | NAPS / QPAY debit | Apple Pay | Good fit for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dibsy | 2.5% + QAR 1, no monthly fee | New and growing stores | ||
| Sadad | Quote | Ask | Stores wanting a Shopify app from a local provider | |
| MyFatoorah | Quote | Ask | Invoices and payment links | |
| Amazon Payment Services | NAPS 1.10%, cards 2.85% + QAR 1.75 | Higher-volume stores | ||
| Tap / Checkout.com | Quote | Ask | Brands selling across the GCC |
Before you sign, ask one question: does your Shopify app include NAPS debit, or only cards? Some integrations switch on cards first and add QPAY later.
The extra Shopify fee, in riyals
Shopify charges a third-party transaction fee on every order paid through an outside gateway. It's 2% on Basic and falls with each plan, down to 0.2% on Plus.
For example, take a QAR 250 order on Basic, paid through Dibsy:
| Cost line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dibsy fee (2.5% + QAR 1) | QAR 7.25 |
| Shopify third-party fee (2%) | QAR 5.00 |
| VAT on fees | None |
| Total cost of the payment | QAR 12.25 (4.9%) |
On Grow, Shopify's line halves to QAR 2.50. Upgrade once those savings cover the higher plan price.
BNPL and cash on delivery
Don't plan around Tabby or Tamara for Qatar. Neither lists Qatar as a merchant market today.
Cash on delivery (COD) is still worth adding for first-time buyers. Add it under Settings > Payments > Manual payment methods, and Shopify charges no fee on it. Confirm each COD order on WhatsApp before dispatch, as our cash on delivery guide explains.
Fee details and every gateway's quirks are in our guide to payment methods in Qatar.
Pricing in Qatari riyals
Set your store currency to QAR. Orders through a third-party gateway are charged in your store currency, so a USD store would charge Qatari shoppers in dollars.
The riyal is pegged at 3.64 to the US dollar and uses two decimals, like the dirham. Round to clean local prices such as QAR 149 or QAR 299.
There's no VAT, so your shelf price is the final price. Selling into Saudi Arabia or the UAE too? Price Qatar separately, without their VAT built in.

Selling to Qatar from a UAE Shopify store
No Qatari company yet? A UAE store can still sell to Qatar.
Turn on Qatar in Shopify Markets, and UAE Shopify Payments can charge Qatari shoppers in QAR, with a 2% currency conversion fee. Cards and Apple Pay work. NAPS debit doesn't, so some debit-only shoppers will drop off.
That's a fine way to test demand. Once Qatar orders build, a Qatari licence and a QPAY gateway pay for themselves. The UAE side is covered in Shopify in the UAE, and Shopify Markets explains the settings.
Shipping Shopify orders to Qatar
Most stores serve Qatar from a Dubai hub by express courier, with delivery in a few days. Above the QAR 1,000 parcel limit, 5% duty applies to the whole value.
Set up checkout and shipping like this:
- Ship DDP (delivered duty paid), so the shopper never pays at the door.
- Use flat rates on Basic, such as free delivery over QAR 200. Live courier rates need a higher plan.
- Make the phone number required. Doha couriers call or WhatsApp before they arrive.
- Add a local delivery profile when you scale. Once stock sits with a Doha 3PL, offer same-day delivery as its own rate.
Routes, couriers and Doha 3PLs are covered in how to sell online in Qatar, and every border and parcel limit is in our GCC cross-border shipping guide.
Arabic on your Qatar store
Build the store in both languages. Pick a theme that supports right-to-left (RTL) layouts, add Arabic in Settings > Languages and have a native speaker edit the titles.
The catch? Shopify doesn't pre-translate checkout into Arabic. Translate checkout text and order emails yourself.
Our Arabic Shopify setup guide walks through it.
Launch checklist
Your gateway application needs the Qatari licence or CR first. Costs and timelines for each are in our Qatar licence options.
Notes for UAE and Saudi brands
- Start with Markets. Your existing store can sell into Qatar with no new company.
- Add a separate Qatar store at scale. A Qatari entity with a QPAY gateway wins debit-only shoppers.
- Strip out VAT. Qatar prices shouldn't carry UAE or Saudi VAT.
